The Wampum Learning Lodge

(Built in 2022)

The Western University Indigenous Learning + Research Centre, located in London, Ontario, is a space dedicated to promoting Indigenous culture, knowledge, and pedagogy. Its design is inspired by the Anishinaabe concept of "All Our Relations," which emphasizes the interconnectedness of all beings with the natural world. The center serves as a hub for Indigenous students and facilitates community engagement around decolonization, Indigenization, and reconciliation. It features elements such as language media labs, ceremony spaces, and natural materials to foster a safe and inclusive environment. Through its design, the center incorporates important Indigenous symbols and values, such as the turtle, Métis sash, and Lacrosse, creating a culturally rich and welcoming space for learning and community building.
