Swan River FN Cultural Center
(Schematic Design)
The Swan River First Nation Cultural Center is situated in the Woodland Cree community of Northern Alberta. Designed collaboratively with the local community, this cultural center offers a space for gathering and cultural exchange. It aims to connect visitors with the arts, language, lifeways, and history of the Woodland Cree people.
The center’s architectural design is deeply symbolic, incorporating elements like the circle, turtle, and medicine wheel, as well as teachings from astronomy, such as the 13 moons. The center’s interactive programs are designed to support local lifeways while also educating visitors. Facilities include a gift shop, restaurant, dance and singing rooms, activity rooms, healing and language spaces, an Elders’ tea room, workshops, and an interior courtyard.
