Sweetgrass First Nation K-12 School

Sweetgrass School

2020

Sweetgrass First Nation K-12 School serves students in the surrounding community to provide a welcoming and safe environment reflective of the culture and Indigenous ways of knowing. Sweetgrass supports students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12, as well as the community through the integrated day care centre and small dental clinic. The design is intended to mimic the free-flowing movement of the native grasses in the area, while highlighting local beadwork from the community. The community members wanted to emphasize the importance of landbased learning through the physical and spiritual connection to the Cree worldview.
